New Berlin Travel Festival for travel-hungry millennials

Visitors to ITB Berlin can currently enjoy a preview of the new Berlin Travel Festival at the Marshall-Haus. The slogan of this event, which combines an interactive exhibition and programme of stage events, is ’People, Places and Memories’. The festival targets millennials who have grown up with digital media and whose travel needs are different. In its role as an innovator ITB Berlin is sponsoring this new event which will take place for the first time at the Arena in Kreuzberg from 9 to 11 March 2018. Combined tickets will be available to trade visitors at ITB Berlin.

Botswana: The journey of the rhinos

Botswana's biggest treasure is its biodiversity which is why the partner country of ITB is making great efforts to preserve its wildlife and protect animals from poaching. One example is a programme to relocate rhinos from several countries in southern Africa in Botswana. The vast expanses of Botswana’s wild offer ideal protection for these animals. “Relocating a rhino costs around 45,000 dollars“, explained Map Ives, the Botswana National Rhino coordinator at ITB Berlin. The project has also received the celebrity support of Prince Harry, who ably lent his help to resettle a rhino that had just made the journey to its new home.

IPK World Travel Monitor®: Global tourism defies terrorism and unrest

Despite a number of tourist destinations such as Turkey and France experiencing a sharp decline in tourism due to political unrest and terrorist attacks, global tourism in 2016 increased by four per cent. This is one of the findings of IPK International’s World Travel Monitor® survey which was presented at the ITB Berlin Convention. Rolf Freitag, CEO IPK International, forecast a further four per cent rise in global tourism in 2017. A special poll conducted by the market research organisation investigated the possible impact of terrorist attacks on travel patterns. It found that 45 per cent of foreign travellers might change their plans for 2017 due to terror warnings. 16 per cent said they would not travel abroad and preferred destinations at home.
